We value honesty, starting from humble origins and flowering as we have, we could never have achieved it without the communities we serve. For this reason, we are actively engaged within the communities across the world.
Day by day we are committed to developing projects that educate young people and support young sports talent seeing ourselves as an organization not only concerned with the ingredients of our food but in the fabric of society.
With global hunger still rife across the world we are committed to donating $500 each time a franchise opens to the UN World Food Programme in a bid to feed people who cannot afford to feed themselves.
Just Falafel Education Fund
Education is one of the fields we feel the most passionate about and during the past few years we have committed ourselves to supporting deserving students through a number of initiatives. The ‘Help Us Help You’ campaign was launched in January 2012, tying together social media, creative arts and academic support. We awarded a full university scholarship to a deserving student, whose short video application submitted on our Facebook page, received the most votes from our fans.
The ‘One Million Fund’ was created in January 2013 to celebrate our one-millionth Facebook ‘like’, as a thank you to our fans and supporters. With each new Facebook ‘like’ we receive, one dirham is still contributed by us to an existing seed fund of AED 1 million aimed at helping students in need. We believe that education is a critical catalyst for success, and through these initiatives, we hope to be able to change the lives of deserving students and help them realize their full potential.
Aqil Rashid – The Young Philanthropist
"I am overcome with emotion after winning the Just Falafel scholarship. I feel really happy to be able to have this honor and I’m excited about the prospect of being able to study anywhere in the world without having to worry about how much it will cost.”
The bright, young winner of the Just Falafel ‘Help Us Help You’ scholarship Aqil Rashid is a 15-year old Pakistani student, who has dedicated much of his time to building drinking wells in remote villages in Afghanistan as the founder of the 1 Well, 700 Lives programme. With this scholarship, Aqil aims to pursue a degree in water management or a related field, to continue his passion in helping to provide clean drinking water to some of Afghanistan’s most poverty-stricken areas.
Supporting Young Sports Talent
Apart from educational programmes we have a keen interest in involving ourselves in supporting young sports talent, which is perfectly aligned with our ‘healthy eating and healthy living’ philosophy. Most recently, we have announced the sponsorship of a young tennis champion-in-the-making, Karim Najia, who is the No.1 tennis player in the UAE for the ‘Under 14’ years of age category. The sponsorship includes financial support for all expenses including coaching tournament fees, travelling costs and equipment.
Karim Najia – The Next Roger Federer
"I am incredibly grateful for the support of Just Falafel and their faith in me as I progress through this season. I am looking forward to our partnership and playing to the best of my ability.”
Karim started playing tennis at the age of three and a half with his father, who noticed his natural talent for the sport. Karim has since trained with Peter Burwash International, before moving to the Al Wasl Club in Dubai, where he remains under the tutorship of Head Coach Francois Danican. As well as his training and competitions, Karim has also been fortunate enough to play with some of the greats of the game; Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Helping Fight Hunger Worldwide
Our partnership with the UN World Food Programme (WFP) underlines our commitment to assisting those in need. Our aim is to help fight hunger worldwide by raising up to $1m over the next three years to support people in the most fragile situations. Together with WFP we are hoping to ease the suffering of children, men and women affected by hunger around the world.
For the next three years, every time a new Just Falafel franchise opens in any location around the world, we will make a $500 donation to WFP. Our new franchisees will also be encouraged to match the donation, doubling the impact of the initiative.
The sad fact is that one in eight people in the world are undernourished. Hunger and malnutrition are the number one health risk worldwide - greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. Nearly 900 million people around the world do not have enough to eat to lead active and healthy lives. We are hoping that our collaboration with WFP brings a new opportunity to engage consumers in the fight against hunger. Every sandwich sold increases the opportunities for new franchisees - and every new franchise now helps fight world hunger.
